Between The Sound and the River

At daybreak the air holds
a slight chill.

There is something about the light
on this fall morning.

It will be a good day to ride the trails
through the forests nestled
between the Sound and the river.

There is so much beauty
to behold, to chase and capture.

The other night I caught
a Sunflower and the moon
in conversation.

Perhaps I’ll see a Heron fishing,
a deer startled,
the mountains and trees
mirrored in still water,
and a lone swan gliding
across their reflection.

I’ll ride, listening to the rush of the wind
as I sail down the hill
that descends from the trail head.

I will stop when I see the artistry
of mother nature on display.

The perfect composition
of the massive fallen tree,
roots a semicircle pulled from the ground
by the power of the torrent of her tears
and the force of her breath
amidst the lightning and thunder.

I will adjust my lens
to capture the beauty I see
and perhaps to share with you
