Your Bodhisattva is Showing

I have walked through the forests with you, up frosted trails and beneath the summer sun along the Hudson. Each encounter is prefaced by a gift of seeds to the creatures native to the land we are entering, and by a prayerful acknowledgment that the land was once cared for by a people who never considered owning it but were always one with it.

Members of our sangha are not faces in the crowd but cherished souls whose stories and poems you have embraced and quoted as you might speak the words of the Buddha himself.

My friend, you have had my tender admiration since I first began listening to your guidance as I stumbled to find my footing in life and on the cushion.

But this morning, as you stood poised and centered, bearing witness to that which moved the Buddha to begin his journey, I couldn’t help saying to myself, “There it is again, her bodhisattva is showing
