That I Might Find Them

It makes no sense
No rhyme or reason
But as I pass the lake
In the milder seasons
I slow my ride
And scan the horizon
With hopes and prayers
That I might find them

A pair of swans
A him and her
They dip and dive
And seem to glide
Just above the water
But never far
One from the other

Each year for a decade
the pair I have spied
And two years
Since I lost my bride
But somehow
seeing them together
Always gives me solace

It makes no sense
No rhyme or reason
But as I pass the lake
In the milder seasons
I slow my ride
And scan the horizon
With hopes and prayers
That I might find them

  1. Thanks for this verse of harmony and warmth that resides in our innerworld yet so often is demonstrated in the natural world. The couplings of the swans is a familiar melody caught in the heart.

  2. Powerful, your prose amazingly transmits the love you had and lost and shares with all of us here the emotions you feel, amazing!
